Crawford-Tracey Helps Build the Future of Education in Broward College Miramar West Center

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – Crawford-Tracey Corporation, a leading Florida-based glazing contractor specializing in unitized and pre-glazed curtain wall and window wall products, completed glazing work on Broward College’s newest location, Miramar West Center, conveniently located east of I-75, in time for the start of fall 2016 semester.
Designed by Perkins + Will and built by Kaufman Lynn Construction, the $21 million, four-story Miramar West Center meets today’s educational needs in a stylistic, LEED-certified green space. As the glazing contractor for the project, Crawford-Tracey selected Pro-Tech 7SG, a seven-inch, four-sided structurally glazed curtain wall system that meets the most stringent hurricane standards in the country while offering a water rating of 100 psf.Approximately 14,400 square feet of Pro-Tech 7SG with laminated/insulated vision glass from Viracon was installed. As a special design touch, Crawford-Tracey created custom shadow boxes to match the building’s pavers for a smooth, unified look.
Miramar West Center features 89,000 square feet of state-of-the-art classroom technology and collaborative learning spaces, including a webinar room, tutoring labs, flexible classrooms and meeting spaces. Much of the furniture throughout the center comes with built-in power chargers for phones, tablets and computers. An open dining area and one-mile walking trail offer students and faculty a break from their studies.
“Educational facilities are adapting to the needs of today’s students and faculty with more technology, intuitive designs and green building,” says Ray Crawford, President of Crawford-Tracey. “It was a pleasure working on Broward College’s Miramar West Center.”
